John Patrick Cunningham is an architect and designer based in New York City. He strives to create place-making work that is spatial, kinetic, and tactile, drawing influence from the natural and anthropological history of place to establish both syntheses and juxtapositions between nature and society. He is fascinated, at a macro scale, by the city as both a theoretical and physical construct, how its density affects its culture, how its appearance affects its experience, and how its evolution is driven by forces beyond our comprehension, and at a micro scale by the phenomenology of space and materials, and how the senses affect memory and experience. He is also an educator, currently holding adjunct faculty positions at the City College of New York, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the New York Institute of Technology, and has previously taught at the University of Melbourne.
