John Patrick Cunningham is a Brooklyn-based architect with a lifelong passion for design—first
with Lego, now with New York City co-ops and townhouses. Originally from Chicago, he studied
architecture at the University of Illinois and went on to earn his master’s degree from the University
of Texas.
Between degrees, Cunningham founded a design-build
nonprofit in Central America focused on community-driven projects—an early chapter that continues
to inform his values around collaboration and social impact.
From 2014 to 2019, he was part of the team at SHoP Architects, contributing to large-scale urban
projects that married technological innovation with tactile richness. In his own practice, whether
designing a serene urban perch or a sprawling duplex, Cunningham approaches architecture as both
a tool for problem-solving and an elegant framework for life.
John is licensed in New York and North Carolina, and is NCARB-certified for licensing in other states.
